On This Very Christmas Night...

It's Christmas. And like every Christmas, Santa came bearing gifts, my cell phone was given much love with a plethora of "Merry Christmas!" texts, and we ate delicious cinnamon rolls for our morning meal. We ate a gorgeous meal of turkey, stuffing, rolls, and all the other wonderful holiday sides that come with the season for our family dinner. Quite impressive seeing as last night, we hosted our annual extended-family Christmas Eve party which consisted of sugar, fun, and more food than most would find possible to exist. It was such a great, joyful time. This is truly one of the most blessed times of year. A time where the world as a whole pauses to reflect on the blessings in their lives and remembers the things that should matter most all year. A time to set aside worries of work, of school, the stresses of life. A time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A time to remember the purity of the Christmas Story.

It's a pity we cannot, as a society, keep this feeling throughout the year, but I am so very grateful that at least at Christmas, people seem to be a little kinder, a little more loving, a little more Christ-like. I was pondering over this, and my own inadequacies at keeping the spirit of Christmas with me during other months, and decided that I will start with me. If I try to incorporate the Savior and His teachings in my own life during the year, I am most certain that my family will be affected in a positive manner. If I can help bring joy and happiness and the peace of Christ's gospel into my own home and spread His love throughout my family members, perhaps with time, that will influence the people we come into contact with. Change in society must start at the basic unit. And that basic unit is the individual. The individual must change, the family must grow closer together in love and faith. Only with strong families can society change and prosper. So that is my goal for the rest of 2011 and 2012. I will be the person who encompasses what I long to see in the world. And in doing so, I can help those around me feel the love of our Savior and partake in the blessing of His matchless and atoning life not just at Christmas, but everyday for the rest of their lives.
